What is Import Export Code (IEC)?

An Importer Exporter Code (IEC) is one of the most crucial business identification numbers and is necessary while exporting from India or importing to India. IEC number is mandatory for any export or import transaction by any individual.

Who can apply for IEC Code?

For services exports however, IEC shall not be necessary except when the service provider is taking benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy. To import or export goods or service a person or an organization requires to have a ten digit code called Import Export Code or IEC which is being issued by DGFT, Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Govt. of India.
